Farming when our grandparents vs farming today. Text. 6º grade A.

You know that many things are changing very fast: AI, drones, intelligent cars that drive by themselves... On this report I will tell you about the changes in Agriculture, comparing our grandparents time with our time.

  • Mechanization. In our grandparent's time, all farming was carried out without modern machines. Only human work and animal strength. Our grandpas harvested with scythes and sickles, sowed by hand; and ploughed the fields with mules and oxen. Today, fortunately, the thing is very different: havesters collect the crops very fast; tractors can plough a field in hours; drones fly over the fields detecting possible pests and wiping them out...

  • Pesticides. In our grandparent's time, if a pest appeared in a field, nothing could be done. Only to pray for a miracle. Today, fortunately, we have chemical products which kill or prevent pests, being able to save the entire harvest.
  • Fertilizers. Many time ago the only way to fertilize a field was by means of manure (animal excrements) Today, fortunately, we have a wide variety of chemical products which help crops to grow faster and healthier.
  • Modern irrigation systems. In our grandparent's time, irritation systems were very primitive: they flooded the growing fields, making the water flow by ruts. This system wasted a lot of water. Today, fortunately, we have the drip irrigation: a very efficient system which waters the plant drop by drop, saving a lot of water.
