Toys in ancient Rome.

Children in Ancient Rome loved to play with toys, play games and have fun.

There were many different kinds of toys that Roman children had, many of them are toys that we see today.

Some of those toys were horses, playhouses, carts, wooden swords, balls, bells, dolls, kites, and other toys.

All toys that children had were handmade toys, and these toys were very popular in the homes of the Ancient Roman people.

GIRL TOYS.

Most of the time girls would play with dolls, and if there was a poor Roman family, the mom would sew rags together and make rag dolls for the girls. Girls that were from wealthier Roman families would have dolls that were made out of wax or clay and they had moving body parts such as arms and legs. Other very popular toys in Ancient Roman times were playhouses. These playhouses would be made out of wood, and many of them would have tiny figurines that girls could use to play with in their houses.

BOY TOYS

Boys during Ancient Roman times loved to talk and think about war.  They would listen to their brothers or fathers telling stories about fighting in the war and so when they would get toys, many of them would be war type toys or games.

Sometimes, boys would get wooden swords and shields and they would play games with other children in the neighborhood and they would 

pretend to fight in the war.

BABY TOYS.

Even babies would have toys that would be made out of wood.  Some of those toys included things like rattles, pulling toys, balls and more.  Sometimes, families would give their children a soft ball that had a wooden rattle inside of it.  These would allow the baby to shake, squeeze and throw the ball.

Tops were another popular toy during Ancient Roman times and children would love to spin the top. Most of the tops were painted with different colors and were very popular.

Pull-toys and whistles were very popular during Ancient Roman times.  The Romans would also make animals that were carved out of wood, animals that had wheels that could be pulled around and even chariot toys that the children could race around.

Are we alone in the universe?

The Earth is a little blue ball floating on the space, with very favorable conditions for life: water, atmosphere, magnetic field, oxygen... Out of here, life seems impossible: extrem hot over 5000º, or extrem cold ( - 273º); solar storms, radiation... Very hard conditions indeed. However, we do not know if there is (or not) life out of our plantet. Let's see some arguments in favor and against the existence of aliens:

In favor: Universe is very wide, even vast. So big that cannot be conceived by our human minds. Billions of galaxyies with billions of stars, many of them surrounded by dozens of planets... Why not possible that in one of those plantes life could arise?

Against: If there is life out of the Earth, How is that no Alien has come to say hello?

In favor: They haven't say hello because we are not enough important for them. If you meet an ant, "would you try to communicate with it?"

Against: Life, as we know it, is a complex thing which needs a lot of requirements for arising: water, carbon, oxygen... It is not very common to find all these elements together in a planet.

In favor: As said before, the universe is very very vast. NASA is constantly finding planets defined as "habitable": this means that in those planets there is water, athmosphere with oxygen, etc.

Against: Let's assume that there is intelligent life out of the Earth. Here comes the problem of distance. The closet star to our Solar System is Alpha Centauri, which is 415.900.000.000.000 km far. And this is the closest one. Imagine the distance which an alien had to cover from remote areas of Universe. It would take hundred of years to travel from one to other habitable planet.

In favor: Alien's technology could be more advance than ours. Maybe they have found a way for travelling great distances very fast; for example, curving the space - time line.

The discussion could be eternal. What do you think? In favor or aganist the existence of aliens?
