Teacher's favourite elite soldiers from History. 6th grade A.
As a proposal for next Monday, I want to tell you about my favourite elite soldiers from History. This is my top 5:
5.- Mongol Cavalry.
In 13th and 14th centuries a man named Gengis Khan gathered all Mongol tribes and conquered the most part of Asia, creating the biggest empire known in History. His secret weapon: the Mongol cavalry, composed by Mongol horsemen. The Mongol horseman was a very specialized rider capable of controlling his horse only with his legs. Thus, he had his hands free for shooting arrows with the Mongol bow: a very powerful weapon made of horn, bamboo and sinew.
4.- Roman Legionary.
The Roman Empire could reach its maxium power and extension thanks to its army: the Legions. Legions were complete independient armies composed by 6000 soldiers (legionaries). A legionary was a well trained warrior, strong and disciplined. The big aset of legionaries was their coordination: they fought as one, being able to destroy every army which dared to challenge them. The equipment of a legionary was a helmet, an armor made of leather and iron plates, a big rectangular shield, a spear and a short sword. They were very strong, being able of walking more than 30 kilometers a day carrying all their stuff (which weighted more than 30 kilos)
3.- French Musketeers.
In France, during the 17th and 18th centuries, an elite military force appeared. They were the musketeers: soldiers specialized in firing muskets (a very primitive gun). But they were not only shooters: they were also very well trained soldiers at fencing and hand to hand combat. Their equipment was a sword, a musket and one or two pistols.
2.-Medieval Knight.
During 13th, 14th and 15th centuries in Europe appeared a type of warrior equiped with heavy armor. They were the knights: nobles from low rank who earned a living fighting for other noblemen. They focused themselves on military training, becoming one of the most powerful forces in Medieval times. Their equipment was very heavy (between 15 and 25 kilos). They wore helmet, full armor and oftenly a chain mail. Their weapons: the spear, the bastard sword, knives, maces, shields... They usually rode on armored horses.
1.- Ninjas.
In Japanesse language, Ninja (written as 忍者) means "the one who is invisible". A Nija was like an assasin, especialized in fast attacks. They were also spies, getting information, looking out people or targets... Ninjas were trained in ninjutsu (a martial art typical of ninjas) and were masters of some deadly weapons, like ninja stars, katanas, wakizashis, etc. They were also very agile, being able of climbing steep walls, runing by the roofs, jumping from house to house...
