Class plan. 11/13/20

Here we go with some new stuff:

And a story about Jack on Lantern:

Jack was an evil man. He was all day drinking at the tarvern; and when not drinking, he was stealing coin for getting more ale. He was also a trouble seeker, a bad father and worse husband. He had even killed some people. Summarizing: he was bad. Very bad.

One day the devil came to meet him. As usually, Jack was in the tavern. "Jack" said the devil "I come for your soul. You have been a very bad guy. There is no hope for you. You will never enter in the paradise; so I will take you to the hell just now".

Jack, who was a very cunning guy, tricked him. He told the devil: "Oh, please. I want to have one last beer. But I have no money. Can you become into a coin? So I could pay the beer". The devil answered: "Of course I can. I am the devil. I can do everything". The devil became into a coin; and on that precise moment, Jack put him inside his pocket. "Take me out, bastard!!" the devil claimed. "Take me out!!". "I will take you out with one condition" said Jack. "You will give me ten more years. I need this time to become myself in a good guy"

Ten years passed. And the devil, which always do his word, appeared again. Jack was on the same tavern. "Jack, I come for you. I will take you to hell. And this time you will not trick me". The devil grasp Jack by his shirt, draging him by the ground. And when they were at the gates of the hell, Jack said: "Oh, mighty fallen angel. I see a black tree on the left side of the gate. What is it?" "It is the sinful tree. All sins blossom on its branches. Its bark is slippery like marble. Nobody can climb it. Why do you ask?" "Oh", replied Jack "I was thinking if you could climb it. You say nobody can do it; but sure God can". The devil, spurred on by the comment of Jack, roared: "Of course I can. I am the devil. I can do everything". So he climbed the tree; and just when being at the top, Jack ran towards the trunk and, with a quartz stone, carved a cross on the wood. "Arggghh!!" the devil screamed. "You have cheated me again!" "Erase that cross! I cannot go down with it on the trunk!" "I will erase it with one condition" replied Jack. "You will not come for me never more". "As you wish" said the devil "but please, erase it!!" So Jack carved away the cross; and the devil go away forever.

Fifty years passed. And Jack finally died, at the age of 83. His soul went up to the heaven; but St. Peter do not let him pass, because he had been a bad person. Then Jack went to the hell; but he neither could stay there because of his treat with the devil. Since that day, his soul wandered by the prairies of Ireland, tormenting alives, killing cattle and corrupting crops.

All this wicked matter ended when St. Patrick met the dark spirit of Jack. He told him: "Jack, lock you up inside that pumpkin, and never get out!"

From that day we carve pumpkins at Halloween time, remembering how St Patrick get rid of Jack forever.
